Champagne Supanover - Where were you when they were getting high?

That's the British manner of speaking. and that of the Bostonians too. You don't pronounce the "r"'s that are there, but you do pronounce the ones that aren't there. What's up with that?

I did a search and didn't find this song embedded or any other Oasis music either. They were to be the new Beatles. That didn't take. I know about John, Paul, George, and Ringo, but I NEVER knew these guys names, even during their heyday. Well, I looked them up. During said heyday, Oasis was:

Liam Gallagher – Vocals,
Noel Gallagher – Lead guitar, Vocals, Keyboards, Bass guitar
Tony McCarroll – Drums (1991–1995), then Alan White (1995–2004)
Paul "Bonehead" Arthurs – Rhythm guitar, Keyboards, Bass guitar
Paul "Guigsy" McGuigan – Bass guitar
(Different guys played Bass guitar at different times.)

I do remember the Gallagher brothers by recognition now. Anyway, Oasis formed in 1991 in Champagne, Illinois , no, wait, Manchester, England, but they became really big in the mid-'90s with their (What's the Story) Morning Glory? album (1995). The album had 2 #1 singles off it, Some Might Say and Champagne Supernova, but also a few more popular singles. I looked it up, and I remember EVERY song on the album. This must mean I had the album in some format before. If I can't remember that, how can I remember all the band members?

If you don't like this sound, described as BritPop, you might not like a one of them, but I do like the sound. This particular song is dream provoking with that long ending and nice lead guitar. That said, here is a quote from Noel Gallagher, who wrote the lyrics to Champaign Supernova:
This writer, he was going on about the lyrics to "Champagne Supernova", and he actually said to me, "You know, the one thing that's stopping it being a classic is the ridiculous lyrics." And I went, "What do you mean by that?" And he said, "Well, Slowly walking down the hall, faster than a cannonball — what's that mean?" And I went, "I don't know. But are you telling me, when you've got 60,000 people singing it, they don't know what it means? It means something different to every one of them.
No, that's not it. They are singing it because it's got a great sound. The lyrics could be "Death to the Queen", and there'd probably be the same 60,000 people singing... maybe not at the Albert Hall, but ...

Someday you will find me, caught beneath a landslide, in a Champagne Supanover in the sky ... It's the economy sound, stupid!

Next week, hell I don't know... got plenty of flavors of stupidity to write about in this day and age. Thank you all so much for reading and especially for writing in! Good Sunday to all.

PS: Great and creative humor, Mr. Hail! I think (3) sounds like the most realistic, but (4) sounds more Rockford-Files-ish, which is quite appropriate here.

Yeah, I just went and spit out more comments on iSteve. I do have a think about getting in wise-ass remarks ASAP. I want to thank you for the good word and link you put in one of your comments yesterday(?)

No problems here, except I was very busy on Monday. I was too pooped to write last night. I've got lots of stuff built up, and I haven't forgotten the China story (and the critique by the Indian blogger/commenter). However, I may start off small tonight. That usually means a personal anecdote or one of those "Hey, read this!" posts. I'll build up steam on Thursday I think.

Thanks for caring, anyway, Mr. Hail.

PS

Closing in on seventy-two hours without an update. Let me propose several theories that the people are talking about:

1. A handful of pro-Stupidity agitators have been talking to the boys who work in the Peak Stupidity printing section, leading to a small strike and delay in printing the latest.

2. Pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian protestors in front of the Peak Stupidity central-office have been scuffling daily, causing property damage. The Peak Stupidity Executive Board then issued a directive to re-group main-line operations at one of the branch offices, aware that normal Stupidity-awareness-raising activities will be delayed by up to several days.

3. A raid on a Peak Stupidity branch-office and arrest of a Stupidity-expert has led to a directive to slow down for now, "until we figure out what the hell is going on."

4. Steve Sailer has requested that select members of the Peak Stupidity board head over to the scenic San Fernando Valley for emergency consultations on the Stupidity problem. This then led to talks about about establishing a small Peak Stupidity--Sherman Oaks branch-office. There was also an unfortunate drunken-dispute with Steve Sailer by a junior Stupidity-expert, related to a restaurant-bill, but that has been straightened out now.

PS

Just up the road from Champaign was Chanute AFB, which was the Air Training Command base where engines and avionics went to die.

PS: Yep, I did know that, Mr. Blanc. I was trying, trying, mind you, to be funny. See, I kept typing Champagne (the drink, hence the band name) that way while writing the post.

I've been to Champaign/Urbana. At the time, the Mech. Engineering Dept. had this huge wire-rope (i.e. cable) tension-testing machine, maybe THE biggest.

PS It’s Champaign, IL. Right next to Urbana, IL, where the University of Illinois is located.I was living in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago in the mid-1990w, for what it is worth.

PS: Yep, that was one of the hits. Noel Gallagher sings like John Lennon and wears the round eyeglasses like he did too. That wasn't enough to make these guys Beatles 2.0 though. They should have played at Shea Stadium!
