Ron v Micky: Last Round

That there even was this last round is due to that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is a fighter, not a bullshitter, cough, cough, as opposed to certain ... cough cough ... (A guy named Ken Cuccinelli explained here.)

The Red State site discussed this likely last round in the year or two long fight between the good Governor and the Woke World of Disney. As it's been a tourist State since the selling of swampland to suckers petered out, Florida long ago let the Disney Company basically run their own government on a huge piece of land called Reedy Creek - it's 47 mi2 in central Florida (around Orlando, of course) - in return for all the tourist spending that could be taxed. Disney has taxing powers above and beyond local and State taxation in the district.

In this corner, Micky, formerly family favorite, now Champion of family-destructive Wokeness:

In Disney's own words:
In 1967, the Florida State Legislature established a special district in Orange and Osceola Counties known as the Reedy Creek Improvement District (recently renamed Central Florida Tourism Oversight District). Encompassing 25,000 acres, this special district provides and manages municipal services for the 47-square miles of the Walt Disney World Resort.

For more than 55 years the special district fulfilled its legislative intent as outlined in its original charter – the advancement of economic progress and well-being of the people of Florida by facilitating the development of a world-class tourist destination and was a model of efficient and well-run local government.
Yeah, from that article it sounds great, but here's a less biased view from The Tallahassee Democrat.

In this corner, the great Conservative fighter Ron DeSantis:

The thing is, money's not everything, and Ron DeSantis' stance against the extreme Woke politics of Disney and Disney World, where the kids can experience it, encompasses this thought. Those politicians that have been against his fight either have more greed than Conservativism (the local ones), are envious of DeSantis' success, or they (on the left) simply want the Cultural Rev. 2.0 to continue.

Well, I'll keep the suspense down by keeping this short, simple, and sweet. this Red State article says:

Gov. Ron DeSantis earned a victory lap on Wednesday after Disney's last-gasp lawsuit against him failed in federal court.

The judge in the case dismissed the much-ballyhooed move against the governor based on a lack of standing and the plaintiff's failure to state a claim. With that, total victory against "The Mouse" has been secured.

Gov. Ron DeSantis earned a victory lap on Wednesday after Disney's last-gasp lawsuit against him failed in federal court.

Every step of the way, DeSantis has bested Disney, though some of his critics on the right boasted that this particular lawsuit proved the governor had "lost to Mickey Mouse." That was always ludicrous, and there was always a good chance it would not prevail.
I'd say those critics on the right were the envious ones.

Winner by a knock out punch to the nose and ears: Ron DeSantis!

Agree mod. - Ron DeSantis is not finished. People like Dave Rubin, who is friends with him, said - repeatedly, what lots of others (Meghyn Kelly, Joe Rogan) said again and again: Ron DeSantis can't beat Donald Trump, because the latter's personality is too strong.

Some of the mistakes Ron DeSantis made were grave - like giving in to his donors and in the process change course of his Ukraine-policy.This one made me nervous.

Another grave mistake, that Vivek Ramaswamy did .n.ot. make either: Not to tke a strong stand against those states, which took Trump out of the voting process. - People don't like top-down cheating.

PS: "Unless we are to take that Peak Stupidity's politics experts have concluded that Ron DeSantis' political career is over." I surely hope not, Mr. Hail. I figured this was his last round with Big Evil Mouse, is all. Even that is not certain, but he sure has taken this fight a long way. Trump would have long ago forgot the whole thing and went to Disney World to ... marry his 4th wife??

To Mr. Kief:

I watched the Peterson video clip but I heard no direct statement from him saying: "I, Jordan Peterson, endorse Donald Trump in 2024." Did I miss it? I would interpret from his words that he supports Trump, but I didn't hear it directly, which it seemed you were saying he did. Help me understand.

On end of DeSantis political career

To the honorable Peak Stupidity executive-committee:

Regarding your decision to append the words "Last Round" to this post, may I suggest that a better way may have been "Last Round of 2024?" -- Unless we are to take that Peak Stupidity's politics experts have concluded that Ron DeSantis' political career is over.

PS: "What separates Jordan B. Peterson most from the leftists of the original Intellectual Dark Web, which he was part of from the beginning, is not that he fights wokism; that .a.l.l. of the IDW did. But rather that he supports DJ Trump, whereas the lefties - especially Sam Harris and Eric Weinstein, see the worst they can imagine in him."

Dieter your next paragraph explains this pretty well. Left or right, there are lots of people who don't want to be thought of as associated with, or supportive, of Trump, out of embarrassment. They do NOT want to be thought of as anything like "one of those Deplorables".

I hope I can get that image out of my head before bed tonight, Alarmist - the stuff of nightmares.

That's true Mr. Blanc. A lot of good organizations get co-opted politically, to where the founder is rolling in his grave.

PS: Just a quick one about Steve Sailer. Yeah, those commenters are not the type to make baseless charges, specially simply in meanness. Mr. Sailer keeps his wife and kids almost completely out of his writing. I cannot remember a thing he's written about his wife, in fact.

I believe Mr. Sailer does this to protect his family. The ctrl-left does not honor any of that however, but I understand his wanting to be on the safe side.

Anyway, I doubt she controls his politics. You don't find many women at all with iSteve's views - that'd be one in a million, truly. Even Marge over in Adam Smith territory would not quite agree with all of Mr. Sailer's "noticing".

PS: Having my wedding at Disney World is something I'd always have been loath to do, Mr. Hail. There wasn't the big Wokeness push out of them back in '09, but I've got lots of other reasons. A wedding at a Big Biz theme park is not a great start, IMO! I'm glad my wife is not the type to have ever considered something like that. As it went, it was very small, but had it been bigger, it would have been at a nice old church.

As for Ron DeSantis though, first of all Disney is big and it IS in Florida. Since you wrote a nice big biography on him, I will ask you to supply the information on the political status of Mr. DeSantis in '09, but I'd think that his doing this would just seem like a statement that "I support Florida". (Maybe he got a big break on the costs too, haha - if it were gonna be a big expense anyway.) State politicians tend to be boosters of the highlights, if you will, of their States. The main thing was that Disney was not quite the anti-traditional-America org that it is now 15 years back.

I'll write more to you all - meeting a friend right now.

As for the DeSantis wedding, I said this earlier in these pages:

Perhaps the real reason the Greeks beat the Trojans is because the Women of Troy wanted the cute horsey.

Mr. Hail writes:"When did Disney become a Leftist cultural vehicle?"

Let me be the one to make things more complicated: Seen from the left's perspective, Disney was - for decades - a right wing cultural institution, making people happy by turning grown-ups and kids alike into kids.

Gregg Lukianoff's and Jonathan Haidt's idea of the "Cuddling of the American Mind" - that' how their book is titled, which is part of the PS book club, btw., was the main point the left brought up against Disney constantly (!) from the start of this company. For these leftists that insisted on a reasonable culture, it was a clear sign of pro-capitalist politicians from the right: To support such a - .r.e.g.r.e.s.s.i.v.e... - - institution like Disney.

Of course this frontline meant that in those days Ron DeSantis' decision to marry in Disneyland turned him - in the eyes of the critical left!, into a conservative politician who - deep down inside, but also: very obviously!  - had given up on conservatism and given in to the destruction of culture by the Capitalist Entertainment-Industrial Complex: Die kapitalistische Kulturindustrie was the original term of Adorno/Marcuse etc., represented perfectly well by Disney.

The - still leftist - critical approach here was, that in traditional forms like Christianity - which, to make things now - hehe:  .m.o.r.e. complicated, were by and large rejected by the left, were - nevertheless! - acknowledged by some leftists. It was said that they .s.t.i.l.l. embodied meaningful cultural resources, that  were on their way to be finally destroyed by the Entertainment Capitalist Companies.

Btw.: Jordan B. Peterson's fight against Disney-wokism is taking place on these thinly outlined crossroads between left and right.

The open question with regard to JB Peterson was: Would he endorse DJ Trump against Joe Biden? And the answer is: Yes, he does - and the stage he chose to say that was a discussion he had with Tucker Carlson.

Btw. II:

What separates Jordan B. Peterson most from the leftists of the original Intellectual Dark Web, which he was part of from the beginning, is not that he fights wokism; that .a.l.l. of the IDW did. But rather that he supports DJ Trump, whereas the lefties - especially Sam Harris and Eric Weinstein, see the worst they can imagine in him.

- Last thought: I think what motivated Peterson to support Trump, is - deep down inside: A christian thought: To SIDE with The Deplorables... - a thought, that Tucker Carlson wholeheartedly: Shares with JB Peterson.

Here are the eight minutes or so in which Jordan B. Peterson and Tucker Carlson share their support for Donald Trump. If this link does not work: I have also linked this video in the newslinks-section at Unz.

Ron DeSantis says that his wife insisted on holding their wedding (September 2009) at Disney World.

Ron DeSantis has implied that he was not thrilled at the idea of a Disney World wedding. But he went with it -- as so many men have gone along with various sorts of things over the years and centuries and millennia -- because "women are women." He has said something like: "It was her day, so I went along with it."

The "Disney World wedding" admission contributed to one of the main attack-lines from the Trump people against DeSantis, which came together about spring 2023 (?): DeSantis' wife supposedly controlled him in every important way. It was always a ridiculous idea. But that's what politics in our time tends to be.

--

That reminds me, of all the criticisms of Steve Sailer over the years, I've never once heard anyone claim Mrs. Sailer controls Steve Sailer's politics and masterminds his career. That itself suggests the Sailer world fails to attract people who would start such rumors. But the Sailer-commentariat does have some negative dynamics, including certain gatekeeping activities (such as Jack D).
