... trashes opponent Strom Thurmond.... (I kid, but ...)
This guy's pretty far gone, but that's another post. I noted some of old Joe's stupidity, maybe lies, maybe both, as described by Gateway Pundit Cullen Linebarger: Shameless Joe Biden Blasts Grocery Stores for “Ripping People Off and Vows to Pressure Them on Pricing During Speech in South Carolina - ....
This is a Peak Stupidity "I told you so" moment. That is, we told you so, 2 months back, that the 1970s erroneous excuses/explanations for inflation would be brought back across the half century, in our post That old Wage-Price Spiral phenomenon. Yep, President Biden remembers the 1970s, better than he remembers last Tuesday. He was already in the US Senate right BEFORE inflation got big, starting January of 1973.
I think those memories of the BS spouted in the 1970s is coming back to the President, fresh in his mind, like it were yesterday.:
But for all we’ve done to bring prices down, there are still too many corporations in America ripping people off: price gouging, junk fees, greedflation, shrinkflation.Yes, keep on those guys, Joe! Keep fighting for us - bring Big Mac meals back down to $3.89!
Well, it’s going to stop. Americans, we’re tired of being played for suckers. And that’s why we’re going to keep these guys — keep on them and get the prices down.
Now, Peak Stupidity does rag on shrinkflation - we call it "inflation by deflation"*. However, we just don't like the sleazy way the Big Biz marketing people avoid directly raising the package prices. The underlying problem is not mean greedy people in these companies, but it's the creation of currency out of thin air by the FED. No, Joe, it's not going to stop. Prices in general will not go down - they can only go up, which is in accordance basic laws of Economics.
Yes, though. We ARE being played for suckers. He got that right.

PS: I do think the D's are likely glad that Bai Dien's dementia cannot be hidden anymore. This has to make it easier for them. Do they want the GOP-led Congress to be the one to invoke Amendment XXV? It's getting really weird. They made joke about Reagan, but in public, as I recall, there was none of this stuff like we see with old Joe.

"J1234, I think the D's would be better off 'getting' Trump. Trump has this YUGE following, which won't get any smaller if Newsom is installed. Yes, Newsom might bring out voters - many black for EXTRA free shit* - that would otherwise not be particularly motivated to come out.
Even so, the D's would need to count on some major cheating again. They can do that, which is why it's important for Trump, in his rallies, to give a few concrete details to his loyal supporters on how to get involved in stopping election fraud. Mail-in ballots are the key, though, and D-run State governments push that, along with the motor-voter laws. Then, there are the new 10 million illegals....
... maybe we're simply screwed."
All good points. Mail-ins are the easiest path to electoral corruption, and probably the most likely option. The only thing is that there's more evidence/suspicious activity that will need to disappear or be covered up with mail-in fraud. Making an elderly and declining Dem presidential candidate die of "natural causes" might be easier to sell to the public, especially when most conservatives despise him and most progs want to see someone else run. You're correct that Newsom's chances are not good at all, but I don't know if the zealots of the left see it that way (because, after all, they're zealots.)
I think it's unlikely Biden will be rubbed out by the deep state, but I do think it's within the realm of possibility...which is scary and sad. I just hope we have TONS of conservative observers at the polls this time around (maybe I'll volunteer.)

PS: "Economics/inflation: Many say that the $17 trillion in US household consumer debt (a record high) is the result of inflation (people incurring credit card debt because they can't afford the rising prices of essential goods.) I think there is some truth to this, but I wonder a bit about the presumed causality, i.e. is it only inflation causing debt or is it also debt causing inflation?"
I agree that that's what people are doing. I've written before that there are people who plain aren't (financially) middle class anymore but are still doing what it takes to live like they are. That includes going into more and more debt. (I mean 6 or 7 year car loans?!! If you stretch out the duration more, payments go asymptotically to one number anyway, so lots of luck with that!).
However, I don't see the mechanism of the latter idea - I may be missing something.
Yes, if you look at a graph (one I just saw somewhere, could probably find it again), indeed, debt took a nice big dip in '20-'21. But of course, not only were people getting pretty decent unemployment payments from that CARES act, but then payments were often deferred to. Along with that, even rent was, not due to generosity of landlords who still had bank payments and utilities that HAD to be paid, but due to governments requiring them to stand down on evictions.
That latter was kind of humorous to me, I gotta say, as I did in this post:

Xia Den Flu De
That title may be hard to decipher, though Dieter Kief has the best chance - pidgen Chinese pinyin of a long German word.
I've also written about people living paycheck--to-paycheck, even those who wouldn't have to if they made an effort.

* Biden has tried with his school loan forgiveness, completely against a recent SCROTUS ruling, BTW.

PS: James Joyce on drugs? I've never read any James Joyce, but I still can get the humor, Alarmist. Is the fact that we don't get so many tweets out of Bai Dien as from Trump that the former isn't alert enough to write tweets? Trump's stuff was always pretty amusing, especially that major typo*, but I would have rather he spent his big amount of energy on political strategy. Maybe next time... bringing us to J1234's comment.
* Is it a typo if you don't even know what the correct word is?

PS: That's one hell of a story about Miss Schmid, Dieter! Fascist-journo-predators, huh? Haha! They were out to get her by giving her a taste of her own medicine.
I'm glad to hear from you that Alice Weidel was vindicated. We discussed her here before. It's amazing to me that there are still people, those against her, that is, who didn't cheat and lie to railroad her.
One thing to come out of that Claudine Gay deal is that plagiarism seems to be looked into more, at least if you are out to get someone. Maybe it's easier to root out with search sites and other software, but then maybe it's easier to get away with too (use some program that provides synonyms and alternate phrasing). Hell, just let AI do the writing from now on!

Economics/inflation: Many say that the $17 trillion in US household consumer debt (a record high) is the result of inflation (people incurring credit card debt because they can't afford the rising prices of essential goods.) I think there is some truth to this, but I wonder a bit about the presumed causality, i.e. is it only inflation causing debt or is it also debt causing inflation?
Are people buying bread and eggs and electricity on credit? Or is it also people spending a larger percentage of their disposable income on those things, so they can no longer afford some extraneous luxury items like they used to...so they go out and buy all THAT stuff on credit?
Joe Biden is a supreme loser, but so are many everyday ordinary people in the US. People don't/won't save. The only time they save is when there's a pandemic and the gov sends them stimulus checks. Nevertheless, the Biden admin. doctors economic stats so that few people trust them anymore. I don't entirely believe those incredible job numbers that were released the other day, and many other people are rightfully skeptical, too.

All of this brings me back to my big question: Since there's no possible way that Biden can legitimately win the election, how exactly are the Dems going to steal this one from Trump? Will they put him in jail? Will they have him killed? (Sounds crazy, but Tucker has said he's worried about this.) Or will they just rig the votes?
Trump is ahead in the polls, but - much as I hate to say it - his chances of getting into the white house are slim. In my opinion, VERY slim. (Remember - he's the "next Hitler", so it can't happen.) If I had to speculate, though, the Dems won't do something to Trump; they'll probably do something nefarious to Biden, instead - like a "heart attack" or "stroke" - then plug Newsom into the role. They'll have to do it soon, though, before Biden starts pulling down his pants onstage.
I know my speculation sounds crazy, but I don't know if there's a non-crazy outcome to any of this. We'll see.

The left out of it's mind - a German-Austrian add-on:
Seven steps of a German-Austrian story you wouldn't believe - but which is actually true:
1) The liberal German Flagship quality daily Süddeutsche Zeitung goes after (mildly) right wing AfD-politician Alice Weidel, saying that her doctorate-thesis would contain plagiarism.
2) The vize editor-in-chief, Ms. Alexandra Föderl-Schmid, an elegant woman of 53 from Austria writes the bulk of the articles trying to denigrate the pretty tough and not dumb economist Alice Weidel.
3) The SZ Vize-editor in chief seemed to have not written much of the articles that she claimed to - but rather have - composed them from other articles, which she did not cite, but just: Steal.
4) The University of Bamberg installs a team of professors to look into Alice Weidel's scientific work and - after two weeks, comes up with the result: Everything fine.
5) Waltraud Föderl-Schmidt's own diploma-paper gets investigated by a specialist and the man says after a short period of time: Well: Stuff is looking not good for Ms. Föderl-Schmid.
6) Föderl-Schmid is missing. A goodbye-letter to her family is found in her empty car at the alpine river The Inn - a very deadly, 6 degrees cold river in Wintertime. After a big search, Föderl-Schmidt is declared dead - most likely. - Killed by right wing fascist journalist-predators, as soon makes the rounds.
7) Today the news breaks that Alexandra Föderl-Schmid, the Austrian-German left-liberal fascist-hunter has been found under-nourished, shivering and cooled out by passers-by in the waters of the Inn at: Hitler's birth town - Braunau.
