You've stolen my dreams (and lyrics)

From the back cover of the excellent EAGLES concept album of 51 years back:

Desperado, oh, you ain't gettin' no younger.
Your pain and your hunger, they're drivin' you home.
And climate, oh climate, well, that's just some people talkin'.
Your crisis is walking through this world all alone.

Don't your feet get hot in the winter time?
The sun won't snow and the sky won't shine.
It's hard to tell the night time from the day.
We're reachin' all new highs and lows,
but it's funny how the feeling goes away.

High Plains Grifter:

Go down, young Greta, don't you wonder why.
Sooner or later planets have to die.
Two voices call to you from where they stood
Lay down your models now - they're no damn good!

The queen of carbon let you down,
She was just an empty fable.
The queen of hearts you say you never met.
Your twisted fate has found you out,
and it's finally turned the tables,
stole your dreams and paid you with regret.

"You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words. And yet Iโ€™m one of the lucky ones. People are suffering. People are dying. That's cause I'm pretty good with a six gun."

Better keep on movin', Greta Thunberg,
'till your shadow sets you free.
If you're fast, and if you're lucky,
you will never see that hangin' tree.

That was the reprise of Doolin' Dalton and then of Desperado, from the 2nd side of the vinyl record version of the Desperado album.

PS: Greetings, Achmed!

https://hotpot.ai/art-generator

AI art generators really are amazing. And as you say, kinda scary too. Some of those "photos" do look legit. Pretty soon all photo and video "evidence" will be rendered useless by the existence of AI, deepfakes, and such.

Pretty wild. โ˜ฎ๏ธ

PS: Thank you for using the AI for all the Greta images, Adam. I thought about doing this, and I guess it's nothing more than finding a website that let's one use the AI software.

I will say, these are amazing but scary too. I would have thought any one of these pictures was real. Therefore, anyone can pull up an image of anyone doing anything that, well, he wasn't but can get in trouble for.

I'll use a few of them in another post. Thanks again!

PS: I suppose so (on the sign), Adam, unless she just likes that particular spot and her raincoat and her Pippi Longstocking hat. She could have been doing one of those Bob Dylan style videos where you keep dropping the last sign...

"Someone's in the lime pit, messing with the climate, I'm just tryin' a rhyme it.. look out, girl, Peak Stupidity's got your photo op, the man says it's photoshop, ... sock hop, auto shop, the only thing that gets you off is breaking all the rules, Greta Thunberg, Greta Thunberg, you said it all so clean... and I know my life would look alright if I could see it on the silver screen..." Oops, morphed into another Eagles song, it did. (Different album, but just as good!)

I don't know, you've got smoke more dope than I do to make these kinds of songs (the Dylan ones) ... Greta doesn't seem the type. I don't think she should start either, but maybe it could help...

PS: BTW, I am not completely sure who is whom of all of The Eagles corralled up and laid on the dirty road. I am pretty sure that's Bernie Leadon (banjo) on our left, and maybe Randy Miesner (bass guitar) on our right. 2nd from our right is probably Don Henley (drums). I didn't write vocals here because all of them sang.

Anyone else want to take a guess. Anyone? ... SafeNow, big Eagles fan and long-time Californian??

PS: BTW, I saw that Yukon Greta picture while I was looking for ones like the one I labeled "High Plains Grifter". I couldn't find the perfect one, with Greta on a horse with a belt full of ammo or coming out of a saloon.

As for your 2nd one, "she knows not of what she speaks". Great idea, that one! Do you think someone got her to hold this one without her knowing the American black plague aspect of this saying? Or, was it faked?

PS: 21 y/o now is about what I'd have guessed, Mr. Hail. Thanks for your take on the matter, especially the mental health aspect.

I wrote this post for fun. I never really thought of little Greta as an evil person, just a really heavily duped individual. The fact that supposedly serious knowledgeable adults act like we should heed to words of a teen-age girl was ridiculous to begin with. (They have taken great advantage of the emotion, exacerbated by mental problems, as you describe it, of a teenage girl with unfortunately too-lenient, possibly money/fame- hungry parents).

Greta is sort of a lightning rod for my discharges of writing against the Global Climate Stupidity. She's pretty easy to make fun of, one has to admit.

That reminds me of Adam's additional B&W picture of Greta panning for gold. She's hit the mother load over a century later with the Climate Calamityโ„ข program. What this thing has cost taxpayers, employers, and anyone in money, time, aggravation is more than all the gold in the Yukon.

Greetings, Mr. Hail!

You've probably seen this on the interwebs, but here is a picture of Greta mining for gold in northern Canada in 1898...

PS

It's hard to believe, maybe, but Greta Thunberg is now 21 years old. Born: January 2003.

She is of value for generational studies, I think. Imagine the exact same person, with the same socioeconomic, cultural, geographical, etc. circumstances, things being held as close to identical as you could get them, but instead of being born in 2003 is born in 1973, 1983, or even 1993. It wouldn't have been possible to produce her in those earlier years.

Maybe a b.1993 version of Greta Thunberg would've been possible. But the wider society was not quite "there" yet.

Here is the Greta Thunberg timeline as I understand it: She started her "one angry girl" crusade in mid-2018, and became a global celebrity, somehow, by some time in late 2018, then continued with her global fame as a Climate Change activist in 2019 and beyond. A ten-year-older version of her would've started the same in mid-2008 (instead of mid-2018). The cultural climate was not yet fully ripe for it. The year 2008 was still a happier time, in many ways, even if Climate Change ideology was already present (as it also was in the 1990s, and even earlier in inchoate forms; remember the Ozone Layer controversy, styrofoam, and "CFCs"?).

It's also interesting what Greta says of her own awakening to the holy truth of Climate Change ideology. She puts it in the year 2011, when she was age eight. Some time after that, in the 2010s, she was diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome. Her mother, in 2015, began a Sweden-wide publicity campaign to promote awareness of Asperger's syndrome and wider autism in girls, or somesuch thing. So Greta was in the limelight by age twelve, in 2015. She was obsessed with Climate Change ideology, following those religious visions she had back in 2011. Having been primed for this kind of action, to a degree, in her adolescence, she then burst forth on the world stage in mid-2018.

Part of the Greta Thunberg story is not just about Climate Change ideology but about mental health, as well. That's not a cheap-shot personal attack, but a straight-on appraisal of her life's work and history, nothing secret.

A third part (besides Climate Change ideology per se, and mental health) is the religious, as I've already said. To say that Greta's personal crusade against Evil, that is to say the Climate-Changers, to say that it had religious overtones would be to under-sell it a great deal. Overtones are too weak a characterization. She was on a moral crusade after a personal vision of the apocalypse.

Any community will have people like this, and always has. Often they are highly attracted to the religious forces of their time and place.

After Greta gained huge attention and global fame, somehow, in late 2018. Then, in early 2020, the Corona-Panic hit us. That's hardly over a year, 18 months at the max. The Corona-Panic took over the West not more than 18 months after Greta Thunberg's own crusade began. The religious overtones of the early-stage Panic of 2020 were also a big, big deal at the time, even if now conveniently forgotten. Something of a common cause between the two (Greta and the 'Covid' Panic) feels inevitable.

The forces that propelled Greta to great fame preexisted her, but were too weak, in earlier eras, to fully seize the high ground and hold it. In the 1990s or 2000s, earlier versions of Greta Thunberg would have been ignored totally.

People liker Greta Thunberg are easy to satirize. But they can have major influence when conditions are right. The problem is, they are irrational. They are not quite hooked into a common-ground reality but with one of their own, which can make their crusades dangerous.

I again feel that my recent study of "personality disorders" has benefitted me in understanding people like Greta. These people can often pass off as normal, if maybe excitable, and can often pretend to be normal. But, in fact, in many cases, they inhabit a different reality, while pretending to engage in the reality that they perceive others are in. When this is present in a person, it is fairly called "mental illness." Greta Thunberg showed clear signs of this. She had constructed an alternate-reality for herself and interacted with the rest of the world in a grand mismatch.

In a sense, it's not Greta's fault if she has a "diagnosable" mental illness even beyond the Asperger's Syndrome diagnosis. The more-interesting thing, the more-relevant thing, is how wider political or social-cultural conditions were so welcoming, and empowered her, back still as a mid-teenager. It couldn't have happened to anyone born before the 2000s, I think.
