Good news

I am not sure what to make of J.D. Vance yet. I have heard of him, starting back when I'd read about his book Hillbilly Elegy*. That was on VDare, a few years after he wrote it - see Vance’s HILLBILLY ELEGY: A Dissent From Personal Experience - - Ohio’s J.D. Vance Shows That Immigration Patriotism Is On The March and Hillbilly Plight Only Noticed When a Hillbilly from Yale Law Points it Out. In the 3rd of these, writer "Anonymous Attorney" starts with:
By now we're 11 or so minutes into the 15 minutes of fame for J.D. Vance (right) who...
You never know. It turns out it's gonna be way over 15 minutes. I hope that's a good thing.

Ohio Senator J.D. Vance (only 39 y/o) being selected as GOP VP candidate is not the good news, though. Here's the good news:

This article was on the yahoo home page** from a while before he named Mr. Vance at the convention in Milwaukee today.

Trump has been known to do some really boneheaded, nay, flat-out stupid, stuff in his political career. He neglected to do that this time, well, as far as I know about Senator Vance.

I do know about Marco Rubio. That'd have been stupid. N. Dakota Governor Burgum is a Conservative on quite a few important issues, but he's a NeoCon. Though he's against any immigration invasion that is illegal, he's all for legal invasions, in that continuing quest by Big Business for cheap labor. Therefore, picking him would have been stupid too.

The pick of J.D. Vance makes me figure, from my reading of the 2nd of the 3 VDare posts above, Donald Trump really does understand that the immigration issue is THE MOST IMPORTANT. He would not be the man of the hour 2nd 8th of the 20th Century had he not railed about this problem to begin with 9 years ago.

** Hey, no big weather stories were on there today. I've got one! The air conditioning is out, it's probably the compressor, but I'm going to try a Hail Mary with a new capacitor tomorrow, and it's 90.5 F inside per the very precise lab thermometer in the hallway. Global Household warming is real, people!

PS: I agree with Mr. Blanc about that Gabbard broad. Yes, she would scare the NeoCons, but otherwise she's into all the best hits of the ctrl-left. Not good.

About Ron DeSantis, I think even if Trump "made up" with him (all of it being in Trump's own head anyway), Trump could not have someone that good at leadership working below him. It'd hurt his ego too much. I'd say the same about Marjorie Taylor Greene. I WISH she'd have been picked, though. I would just have to buy a TV!

Another of those hillibilly-aqnthropologists writing from deep inside those villagees and families. Joe Bageant.

I've read two of his books, both excellent. And by and large Sailer-/Trump Vance Jim Goad-material.

Here is a wikipedia-quote about Bageant:

In Deer Hunting With Jesus, Bageant discusses how the Democratic Party lost the political support of poor rural whites and how the Republican Party has convinced them to "vote against their own economic self-interest." The book is mainly centered on his hometown, Winchester.[2]

In 2010, Bageant published a similarly themed book, Rainbow Pie: A Redneck Memoir. Bageant used his extended family's experience after World War II to describe the social hierarchy in the United States. The book examines the postwar journey of 22 million rural Americans into the cities, where they became, the author argues, the foundation of a permanent white underclass and comprise much of today's heartland red state voters.[5]

Bageant frequently appeared as a commentator on radio and television internationally and wrote a progressive online column distributed to hundreds of blogs and websites. He maintained his own blog joebageant.net, assisted by Ken Smith, who continued editing the blog after Bageant's death.[2] Bageant also served as a senior (roving) editor for Cyrano's Journal Today and The Greanville Post, two sites devoted to progressive political and media analyses.[6][7][8]

The Gabbard gal would have been real life-insurance for the Teflon Don.

Someone plucked Vance out of obscurity and gave him a charmed life. He’s somebody’s butt-boy, but he ain’t Trump’s. Vance is enough of a cuck squish that it will make him genuflect in the appropriate direction when the time comes, but until then he’ll make all the right noises to get to his new, temporary home at the US Naval Observatory bedore moving into 1600.

PS He took a pass on the Gabbard broad, too. That would have been horrible.

PS: Mr. Hail, I've read ABOUT J.D. Vance's book, but I need to actually read his book. Our always helpful commenter Adam Smith has helped on that score.

I'll check out your links shortly.

Some interesting facts on J.D. Vance: He has an elite-Hindu wife; he has three bicultural children with her, and they are apparently being raised Hindu. He and his elite-Hindu wife have lots and lots of money, qualifying as millionaires sometime already iby their mid-thirties, making them elites whatever way you stack it up.

Vance himself has fifteen years or more of elite connections, and was mentored by Amy Chua and David Frum (the latter mentioned here yesterday for saying Trump's fascist beliefs and Trump's repeated calls for fascist violence against democracy and against minorities, LGBTQs, and Jews all amount to Trump having it coming, the shooting of July 13th).

Vance's early-2020s discovery of some kind of hardline MAGA-nationalism. It could be genuine. It's hard to say. But where was he in the 2010s?

Here is what right-wing columnist Jim Goad had to say about Vance in 2018:

(Jim Goad, author of The Redneck Manifesto, a political autobiography similar to Vance's book; a big difference, Goad is openly pro-White in such way that they won't let him on TV.)

PS

I have a lot of questions about J.D. Vance and what his m.o. is.

I think there are a lot of things, choices, stances, connections, opportunities given him, in his adult life that make him not 'quite' what people think he is.

Little things, here and there; little bales of straw. The trusty camel that I put to use for such purposes is sure-footed and has a strong back. But still.
