A Peak Stupidity favorite pundit that likely all readers here know has been writing and talking* lately about conspiracy theories, the Deep State, the non-reality of these ideas, and, finally, that the right should lay off this stuff. He's got so many common-sense good points. However, the examples of his don't cover the gamut of it all, and I don't agree with a few of his examples anyway. More broadly, I don't think he will ever see evil for what it is. He prefers to brush it all off as stupidity.
Now, you'd think that a site called Peak Stupidity would agree wholeheartedly, after all. I mean this whole event being an example of peak stupidity fits nicely with our URL. Well, we seek the truth (as does the guy - Mr. Sailer - mentioned) though, even if it doesn't always support the

STUPIDITY:
After years of Establishment Lyin' Press and political rhetoric about Trump's becoming a dictator - hey, we WISH!, but we witnessed those last 4 years - a young man like Thomas Crooks could be naive and stupid enough to think he must put a stop to this. Maybe even no psychoactive drugs were involved this time, though no guarantees what with both his parents being in the mental health field. He could be a lone stupid nutcase who's also not a bad shot.***
Then, what of the Secret Service? We saw plenty of incompetence in both planning and in action in the many video clips. Peak Stupidity has written much about the decline in competence within all kinds of occupations - see posts with the Race/Genetics (hey, what are you tryin' to say here?) - - Curmudgeonry, and The Future topic keys, for starters. That D.I.E. programme has wreaked havoc, and it's most assuredly NOT over with. Things are getting worse. Witness the head of the Secret Service, a woman, with her goal of 30% female (or at least non-male) agents by '30. The early benefits of that program were seen this past Saturday.
As rally-goers tried to warn the local cops about this guy on the roof with a rifle, was it just the usual cop/"1st Responder" arrogance that I've run into multiple times?**** "Sir! Please. We've got this all under control. All you civilians [I HATE how they use that - they are NOT the military, or not supposed to be] just stay within the perimeter. Don't interfere with police work, Sir!" In a calmer voice, one might tell you "Don't you think the Secret Service would already know about this. They do this every day." Is it the case that the younger generations don't want to take any action without "orders from our superiors"? "Hey, I never got a text about this guy. Whaddya, whaddya' want me to do, man?"
People of all political persuasions, so long as they don't see the Establishment and Deep State for what they are, would be glad to chalk the whole thing up to Peak Stupidity.

EVIL Conspiracy:
"All you conspiracy theorists" want to claim there were multiple shooters hired by the Deep State. There weren't any big grassy knolls around, but there were a bunch of rooftops. Some on the ctrl-left are claiming the whole shooting was staged. Fake blood, Johnson-Smith company fake ear, photoshopped bullet wake picture, blank rounds, oh, and those 2 dead crisis actors, one on the roof and then the Fireman ...
No, OK, there are levels of conspiracy theories. Did the one wannabe assassin, Thomas Crooks, have some kind of other connections? (I'll discuss the Blackrock ad he appeared in in another post.) It doesn't have to be that complicated. As with 9/11 and even a step above (direct encouragement) on 1/6/21, the most likely conspiracy was one of letting this all happen.
Did the SS know this guy was planning this? I don't know how much Mr. Crooks planned things, but the NY Post (not gonna link cause the site is a PITA to view) claimed he brought his own 5' ladder in some small vehicle. He must have checked this place out beforehand, or else he'd not likely have gotten anywhere... unless his back-up plan was to bring his explosives up to the stage.
About the incompetent Secret Service agents: We are starting to think now that this incompetence is getting harder and harder to believe, the more we learn. That NY Post article said that it not just 2 or 4 minutes during which Mr. Crooks was on that roof. They are talking nearly half an hour that he was on site, implementing his plan(?).
Let me back up and agree with all those who see how thing normally work at these events. This wasn't downtown NYC. There aren't dozens of tall buildings with windows surrounding the site. No book depositories exist at this venue in Butler, Pennsylvania. Covering the few nearby roofs of these metal buildings with "man"power is kid stuff. I saw snipers on the scary-high roof of the State House when I saw Ronald Reagan speak (obviously) decades ago. Now there are drones too, making things much easier.
Nobody saw a guy pull up a ladder and start climbing up to the roof of a metal building less than 150 yards from the stage with a rifle slung on him? Even if that guy had dressed like a FED, if there's any question, a simple roll call can be taken over the radios. (I'll get to more on radios.) He didn't though. When he was spotted by aware people nearby, wouldn't just one cop call it in?
We see that Thomas Crooks was finally spotted and had rifles aimed at him by the SS well before he took his shots. Even, if for some strange reason, these marksmen didn't want to shoot yet, at least they'd have gotten on that radio first thing and given the code. Whatever it is, it tells the guys on the stage to get Trump down and out of the way. I mean, normally, these people are ultra-cautious. One guy starts moving too fast through the crowd, and their protectee is flat on the ground in a second with guys all over him like a 1970s San Francisco bathhouse orgy (as told by a friend, haha! Nah!) Then, they sort it out, and it's either "That's it, we are done here." or "OK, it was an unarmed 'civilian' in a hurry to get to the port-a-potty. Carry on."

Yeah, I know that the Bai Dien administration had recently denied more protection for Trump (and RFK, Jr. too). "We" weren't getting their best. Still, if the actions of the Secret Service agents we saw was all simply incompetence, that is a ludicrous amount of it, D.I.E. programs notwithstanding. Believing that this was stupidity over a conspiracy to allow Trump to get assassinated is naive, from what we now know. Did those who planned to allow this know of Mr. Crooks' plans? Or, did they seize this opportunity to let happen what they long wished for?
Another question that's pretty conspiratorial: Had they turned up the "evil Hitler Trump" rhetoric to 11 recently, knowing they'd likely have a Thomas Crooks come along? If so, as with Motel 6, did they "leave the lights on for him?
I don't know what those Deep State folks who need non-UniParty-member Donald Trump GONE from the political scene had and have planned. A friend just today suggested this too: That the Conservatives are using this event to say "I told you so" about the D.I.E. business, the withholding of better protection, and the rhetoric is perhaps just fine with those who want Trump gone. This is (somewhat of a) distraction from the plain common sense that they purposefully ignored an obvious assassin on Saturday...
... and their plan would have worked too, if it hadn't been for that meddling Trump and his old invasion data!

PS: My wife does not like the J.D. Vance pick at all. It's not his background, but his choice of wives. She has written the Trump campaign - as if a human will read it (I dunno) - telling them this is a Christian country and having a Hindu 2nd-lady and possible President with a Hindu wife later is just no good. She wrote that she will donate no more (and she has donated plenty) but still vote for Trump.
I'm wondering if she can see the light I've been trying to shed re Ron DeSantis, till he dropped out. She was hearing none of it before. Now she said, well, Trump already has Florida. That kind of old "son of our State" thinking is no longer a tactic that matters anymore, IMO.
I think I'll add something about that latter thing to a post with a number of short points.

Sorry to hear about your peaches, Achmed. But I am happy to hear that no one went in your house when you oh so conveniently left the door open for them.

The deer fence only works if I remember to close the gate.
(This is entirely my fault. ๐ Grrr!)
(Apparently, I left it open in the afternoon, after I watered and I thought I was going to water again when I got home from work. But I didn't because we had some light rain in the forecast and I didn't want to put them to bed with wet feet if I didn't have to. It was this morning when I noticed my mistake.)
We used to have zero problems with deer in the garden.
Sure, they would sometimes come by and eat some squash blossoms or something, (one year I unsuccessfully tried to grow some cantaloupe that the deer absolutely loved, but that was out front, a couple hundred feet further from the house and closer to where the deer hang out. By the far end of the circle driveway where the instagrammers stop to take their selfies in front of our scenic overlook.) but they mostly left things alone.
But now... They have been brutal for the last 5+ years or so. They have been eating things that they normally don't. They killed my peppers three years in a row. They even tasted some leaves from a castor bean plant a couple years ago. (As far as I know the deer didn't die as the ricin is concentrated in the shell of the beans.)
Anyway...
Not sure if I should leave the beans (pinkeye purple hull cow peas actually) and see if they come back, (they might, I don't know, maybe I should wait?) or if I should hit it with the garden torch, turn it in and replant. (70 days from seed to harvest. I might still have time but that would place harvest around the last week of September and into the 1st week(s) of October. I'm not sure if we have enough sunlight come fall for that to work.)
One year I had really good luck using 50lb fishing line to make a perimeter through the woods and around the edge of the yard. I ran three lines from tree to tree about 1ft, 2 1/2ft and 4ft off the ground. We also hung little bells on the top line to help scare the deer.
This worked very well. (For a while.) But, little by little I would notice some of the line was busted by deer getting tangled in it or tree branches falling on it and what not. After a few years it was pretty well gone so I went out and collected what was left and threw it in the trash. (So it wouldn't get tangled in the lawnmower.)
I thought about running some new line around the yard...

so I bought 1000m roll of black 100lb fishing line. (The clear stuff is kind of visible as the sun reflects off of it and I thought the black might look better. 100lb braided fishing line is (probably?) more durable and might (should) last longer. I don't know. I should probably go to work and go buy some bolts I need for my current project (1994 Isuzu 4ZD1 head replacement because it had a bad exhaust valve), but I'm not sure if I'm feeling into it right now. (Whatever)

Well, It wasn't the lack of talk about the border and deportation, which is indeed disconcerting, but that whole "we are DIVERSE MAGA now" thing. This friend said that there's some MEGA tranny, but no, he doesn't believe it's OK for kids, but ... Conservatives are what, 4 years behind the left at this point?
I thought it was a good thing that Trump didn't pick Ben Carson or Tim Scott as VP candidate. I am really favorable toward Ben Carson even (not Tim Scott), but the fact is, either would show that Trump does not intend to run a MAGA party that works for the White man.

PS: I too am sorry to hear about the deer disaster with your home-grown veggies, Adam. I've made mistakes of forgetfulness but been mostly lucky - car windows down for a week while out of town, house not unlocked by door wide open all day long ... it wasn't deer I thought about later, of course.
Our peaches were gone from a couple of trees in short order, but that was probably squirrels and birds, and we didn't make any effort to protect the fruit.

They also brought on a number of Jewish-ethnonationalist speakers who just spent their entire speeches praising Israel, praising Jews as an ethnnogroup, denouncing anti-Semitism, and praising Trump for being America's most pro-Jewish and pro-Israel president. This is shocking and outrageous to me.

Ron DeSantis brief speech yesterday night was given less time and attention than the speech by Laura Trump, wife of one of Trump's sons. She had nothing of substance to say. DeSantis, though, snuck in lines suggesting a pro-White immigration policy.
Almost no other speaker even implied anything like that. Meanwhile you had a cavalcade of "I am a PROUD immigrant, I am a LEE-GULL immigrant! The 'American Dream' is always and everywhere for elite immigrants like me!" speakers.
The only thing uniting the coalition we saw is loyalty to, or nominal adherence to, the Donald Trump personality-cult. Plus a "Trust the Plan" remnant.

Speaking of fences, the Republican Party is behaving highly obsequiously in this RNC Convention towards Trump as a personality. But of the speeches I've heard, maybe 1 in 10 at MOST even mention "The Wall" much less a supposed deportation program or a pro-White immigration and family-formation policy, all of which are policies that he has conned his White Middle-America supporters into believing.

I have thought about installing an electric wire fence around the yard, Mr. Alarmist. I think it is time. The parts are cheap, (a couple hundred should get me setup) and there really isn't much too it. (And it might just get me back into some of the earth battery & telluric current experiments that I've been meaning to do.)
We have to do something a little more creative to help keep them out. Not only did they walk (right up next to the house and) through the gate I left open for them to enjoy a cow pea & okra buffet, but they also ate Mrs. Smiths dalias, four o'clocks, and her hydrangeas. If not for us hiding the impatiens, caladiums, and hostas behind some deer mesh they likely would have eaten those too.

I'm a bit skeptical about that. I think these deer would hop over a 14 inch fence to get to all the yummy treats. I also don't want my bottom wire too low, because I don't want my Baby Girl to get zapped...

She's 14 now and she's little. I don't want her to get a 5kv shock when walking around the yard. And, because we have a cat, we have zero trouble with rabbits.
A couple years ago I heard an electric fencing story from a neighbor. He had an electric fence around his garden. It does work pretty well, but one morning he found a dead (electrocuted) fox that got caught up in his fence wire.
Apparently, when the fox got zapped, he turned around and bit the wire and somehow got his teeth caught in it. I really do like seeing the fox running through the yard and I would prefer that not happen. But I especially don't want to find my baby kitty caught in a fence like that. I'd rather feed the deer.

Something like that might work well while keeping Babygirl out of harms way.
Also, the lower the bottom wire, the more likely grass or weeds will grow into the bottom wire and short it out. It might be better if I hang the bottom wire a bit higher for easier maintenance. (Maybe I'll go 24", 36", and 48" around the perimeter.)

We do have plenty of opossums and ground hogs. (Like wild hogs, ground hogs usually get shot on sight because they are so destructive.) And, one night, Mrs. Smith and I were out on the porch (late-ish) when we heard something rustling through the leaves. It sounded like a opossum (because they're clumsy, oh so clumsy). But it wasn't a opossum. It was an armadilloโฝ The first time I ever saw one around here. I guess they have moved up from south Georgia.

The range map found at that link (from 2005) is a bit out dated now. I'm not the only one who has seen an armadillo here in Lumpkin County.
Thank you guys for your sympathy. I feel a bit better about it now, than I did yesterday morning. I think most of the okra will heal and go on to produce. (We'll find out how resilient okra is. One of the okra was completely stripped except for the top baby leaf. I left it to see if it comes back.)
But the purple hulls... Well... Mrs. Smith talked me into leaving them a couple days to see if they start putting on leaves. But it doesn't look promising. I might even torch, turn and replant today. (Very likely.)
But it is a good time for an experiment. I'm going to replant half in purple hulls and the other half in burgundy beans and see which does better.
I usually don't plant the burgundy beans this late in the season because they say (but what do they know?) the burgundy beans are a cool(ish) season spring time crop. But they are only 55 days from germination to harvest. That extra two weeks might make a difference.(?)
