I pity the poor portal people.

This post is related to our recent one titled It's portals all the way down! in that the image above is from the doctor's office survey. However, we present a different, more basic, form of stupidity today. (The reader may see this already from the image above.)

There were a LOT of questions - maybe it was 100 questions rather than only 50. First rule of Kid's Medical Portal Club: You don't give them any information that may be used against him! Granted, allergies, medications, and that, yes, you enter it correctly. This was a long survey that was obviously about his mental health. He's fine. So, I answered every question with "NEVER", of the 3 options. Otherwise, I wouldn't be surprised to be told we needed a follow-up visit. Hell no, we were just trying to get him on the Communist Kickball soccer team. (BTW, he's been doing better than expected, especially after my bad-mouthing of the game long ago.)

The problem was, look at the freaking English there! Did a Woke hire write the questions? I mean, that's better than having xi actually writing software, and it still allows for "Worked , no, Led the Web Portal Team in development of new system while concurrently heading up the D.I.E. team and liaisoning with Human Resources", so the software company can get xir the hell out of there with a great reference ASAP. But, just as with the old AA tokens, you have to clean up after them.

So, what I was ebonically saying here was "No, this kid don't never listen to no rules." and "He don't never show no feelings." That's not really the case mentally - he's fine, but "NEVER" is what the software wants. Scholastically, however, they weren't testing the kid, but he's got these portal people beat my a mile.

PS
Not American but Canadian, so Federal/State/Local becomes Federal/Provincial/Local. I'm local.

Biggest difference is that there's not quite as much fuss over blacks, since there's that whole "Canada never had slavery" thing.
Of course they have to have something to fuss about, so it seems to be the Indians (feather not dot).
Problem with that of course, is that there just aren't that many to make a fuss about. There never were (the "there were lots of Indians and we killed them all" people are just wrong).
Still, they're trying really hard. See the residential schools "graves" thing.

PS: The gas-powered backpack blowers are meant for serious work.

I have said the same things as you elaborated on here, Adam, about gas equipment vs modern electric. That's the thing: If it's been a while, I find myself worried how much trouble it will be to crank the thing up. Because the chain saw is the most expensive, I have usually used up (takes some timing) the rest of the gas to run it out, or even pour it out, before putting it away. That's unless I think I'll use it again later that day, week, maybe month (getting lazy there...)

I used and electric chain saw 20 years ago or so, and I wasn't that impressed. However, these have gotten better, I'm sure. That was a corded one, as battery storage was also not what it is now.

For the leaf blower, I thought about a corded one. That has the real benefit of not requiring the batteries that only last 4-5 years (my experience) before requiring one to pay nearly as much as the tool itself.* There's very nearly NOTHING to go wrong. However, I mentioned the roof. Having a cord dragging while doing that job is asking for a trip to the hospital.

* In fact, it was enough that I didn't go for 2 of them. This way, since the charge for high power (3 out of 1/2/3) gives me 20 minutes (with the battery still fairly new), I get 1, maybe even 2, "union breaks" for charging, when doing the usual job with these massive leaves. The charging takes more time than the use time. That means, even with 2 batteries, I may or may not be able to finish the job in one shot. It's fine though...

PS: I looked at your search results, Mr. Smith. It's nice to see Peak Stupidity up there. Interestingly, without "Ann Coulter" or "Coulter" in the search one doesn't get to this site, at least on the front page of results. Bing, unfortunately, gets one to the "inside" (blogworks) page, with is all my fault for doing things this way. Once one gets to the page, the page looks kind of plain and 1995-like, and you can't get to the full frame-set by clicking "HOME" either. Oh well.

I see that it was commenter Buck Turgidson who used the phrase here, but he also wrote:

"No you go ahead and use it. Saw it about a Yr ago from one of Steve Sailors commennters, think its hilarious."

PS: Good evening, Achmed!

<Déjà vu>

A couple years ago I was walking through my local walmart and they had one of these for on clearance for half price...

https://www.walmart.com/ip/HART-40-Volt-155-MPH-at-600-CFM-Cordless-Brushless-Axial-Leaf-Blower-Kit-1-4-0Ah-Lithium-Ion-Battery/102584780

So, I impulse bought it knowing I could return it if it wasn't to my liking. Turns out it is quite nice. (Even better than Mrs. Smith's old echo backpack blower.) Worked so well I bought a couple extra batteries for it. (It runs about 25 minutes on a fully charged battery.)

This good fortune led me to buy one of these last year...

https://www.walmart.com/ip/HART-40-Volt-16-inch-SUPERCHARGE-Battery-Powered-Brushless-Chainsaw-Kit-1-4-0-Ah-Lithium-Ion-Battery/160678555

It is just as nice as the blower. Great for cleaning up trees and branches around the yard. Even works on fairly big stuff. (I'm not a lumber jack so I imagine it will easily handle anything I'll use it for. If not, I'll use a real chainsaw.)

This little chainsaw has a ton of power and I don't have to worry about winterizing or fixing/replacing a carburetor every few years. (You all know how finicky lightly used chainsaws can be.) And now I have 4 batteries and two chargers which is really handy come fall. (Lots of trees = lots of leaves to blow/mow/compost and burn.)

As an added bonus I don't smell like two cycle oil/gas after running these in the yard. (So much winning!)

</Déjà vu>

When I first brought the blower home Mrs. Smith was like "Why did you buy that, we already have a blower" & "We're never going to use that", etc. But now it lives on the porch and we use it almost daily. She loves it. She'll grab it and blow off the deck so we don't drag crumbs and cat hair inside on the bottom of our feet. Takes just a minute or two. (With the old backpack blower we have to go to the shed, check the gas, start it up and then use it. And even after a few minutes you still smell a bit like blower gas.) (See, moar winning!)

But as nice and handy and good and awesome as this electric blower is there are just some things you need a broom for. (Spider webs! The blower does not work at all on spider webs.)

I know I'm a hermit, and I don't get out much, but...

Why have I not heard of these brooms with the special technology before?

I like technology. I even consider myself somewhat tech savvy. And somewhat informed. I'd really like to know more about this special broom tech. How does it work? What's going on here? Why has no one told me about this?

What sort of Chinese witchcraft is this???

Anyway... The car does not wash and wax itself.

Cheers! 🙂 ☮️

PS: Hello, M. I guess you can't say what type of work or general area of the big Fed? (Or maybe it's State or local.) Any stories you've got will surely be welcome.

Mr. Hail, see, that's the problem. Nobody wanted to go over 100 questions and make them all read correctly and have answers that would mean something and differentiate. They wanted to stick to the same answer format for every single one because... lazy MFs.

I'm the only one who uses that term. I am so glad for some commenter (probably on The Unz Review) I got it from. (Then, there's that Simpson's episode that makes the term hit home - in one of the 2 posts on Communist Kickball I linked to - this and the other post about "portals".) But no, the wife even, well she couldn't tell you hockey from LaCross, I kid you not. What say you, Mr. Anderson? Is that perturbing or what?

PS: Fun site, that Engrish one is, Adam. I guess I could send a few in to this guy. He seems to have a Japanese connection, but I have still more allegedly translated Chinese signs in pictures that I never got around to putting here last summer and fall.

I see the .webp files on both Windows machines and Apple devices. I saw both your brooms. As for me, I bought a cordless leaf blower about 6-7 years ago and have never looked back. Sweeping the roof take about 10% of the time, and one can blow off porches or decks too. There are still uses for brooms though so thank heavens for those High-Tech ones!

M: I'm reminded of "the left-wing can't meme" meme.

The simple answer may be that a Regime-adjacent person in general, and a leftist in particular, develops a smugness whereby she gets used to being "preachy."

PS

I'd revise the questions along these lines:

"Does CHILD follow rules?"
- Yes, almost always
- Sometimes
- No, often disobeys rules

Avoid making any negative-questions because they always end up confusing. A lot of the California "ballot initiatives" for some reason end up in the form: "Do you not support reversing the rule to block Thing A?"

Better that it be in bad English, than bureaucratese.

I work in government. The Communications department puts its oar into a survey and they eventually cut off the questions because they become too long for the software...

Why work in government? It's good money, and it didn't start out all that bad. It's just gotten worse recently.

PS: Good morning, Messrs. Alarmist and Newman!

https://engrish.com/

This post makes the picture that I found last night a little bit relevant (kinda)...

https://i.ibb.co/QD7F2mc/Special-Technology.webp
https://i.ibb.co/3csT2Mn/Special-Technology.jpg

(Same picture two different formats. I don't know if everyone is using a browser that can read .webp)

(I was looking around online to see what kinds of brooms are available. My outdoor broom is getting a bit old, you see, and I would like to replace it with something nicer than what I have found in stock in the local stores.)

I wish my broom had some special technology. ☮️
