Happy (belated) New Year! I hope you and the Newman family are doing well and enjoying your vacation. (And hopefully some beautiful weather too.) Everything is wonderful here on this side. It's about 60° and sunny out there and pretty well perfect for a January day.

Happy Boxing Day, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I've been meaning to respond to your comments for like a week now but I have been such a slacker (sort of) since I started my Christmas vacation. (Mrs. Smith and I generally start celebrating Christmas on the 18th, but this year we started about a week before that.) My sincere apologies for the slow reply.
I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed some glorious weather on the beach and I hope your time Florida was most pleasant and relaxing for you and Mrs. Alarmist. (I assume that you've recently returned to Europe, though I could be mistaken.)
It does look like it got a bit chilly (~38°) in your neck of the woods during the cold spell but otherwise stayed nice. The weather here, other than a couple cold nights, has been unseasonably warm and absolutely beautiful. I've been spending some time doing a little spring cleaning around the yard and hanging on the porch with Mrs. Smith and the kitties. We also had a really large (largest we've had in quite a while) fire one night. (That was fun.)
I suppose winter will come, but so far not yet. All, but the heaviest, of the plants are outside and it looks like they can stay there for another week or so. (They really do prefer being outside. On the other hand, they don't like freezing...)
I was going to make a Boxing Day graphic for you (because this dot art stuff is like a shiny new toy for me) but then I realized that I (despite growing up on the Canadian border) wouldn't know what a Boxing Day graphic would look like. So I found a couple beach themed Santa graphics for you instead. (I'll post them just below this message. Merry Christmas!)

Apparently, sparklers and polyurethane foam in a basement bar with one point of egress is a really bad idea. (Thanks for keeping me informed.
