I'm gonna add an interesting international tidbit tonight. Easter is a Christian Holiday which is celebrated on a date based on a lunar calendar. I suppose if you stipulate it's on Sunday, you've got to start from somewhere, though it could just be "1st Sunday of the month". It isn't. The determination is pretty interesting or, at least, complicated. Per the www:
Easter falls on the first Sunday after the Full Moon date, based on mathematical calculations, that falls on or after March 21. If the Full Moon is on a Sunday, Easter is celebrated on the following Sunday.Since Easter is thereby determined, that means Good Friday, the Friday immediately before Easter Sunday, Ash Wednesday, marking the start of Lent, 40 days before Easter, Palm Sunday, the Sunday before Easter, Ascension Day, celebrated 40 days after Easter, and Pentecost, observed 50 days after Easter. are all based on the date of that certain full moon.
Although Easter is liturgically related to the beginning of spring in the Northern Hemisphere (March equinox) and the Full Moon, its date is not based on the actual astronomical date of either event.
March 21 is the Church's date of the March equinox, regardless of the time zone, while the actual date of the equinox varies between March 19 and March 22, and the date depends on the time zone.
The date of the Paschal Full Moon, used to determine the date of Easter, is based on mathematical approximations following a 19-year cycle called the Metonic cycle.
Both dates may coincide with the dates of the astronomical events, but in some years, they don't.
Now, in China, they use the lunar calendar for most holidays. That's why the Chinese New Years 2-week long madness can be January-February madness to as late as February-March madness. However, the Tomb Sweeping Days. 清明节 for short, during which the people visit, prettify, and bring food, and money (fake money, though) to their dead ancestors' graves, are set by a hard date range, April 3rd through 5th. That's based on the Gregorian Calendar, which they probably claim we stole from China, from Han Dynasty sage Gei-goa-rei.
Those dates happen to coincide with Good Friday through Easter Sunday this time. Would that happen on average every 7th year? I don't know for sure, but I know a guy who would know.*
That's neither here nor there, but we wish the Peak Stupidity readers, commenters, and all Christians a Happy Easter Sunday. Rather than worry about the price of eggs and jelly beans, we should reflect on what happened on this day just about 2 millennia back, whatever actual date it fell on. I've been to the site even.
We'll catch up next week with a number of updates to previously reported items, and then there's the Tale of Two Tree Guys... and MOAR!
* For a couple of reasons, John Derbyshire would know. I may go to his site and try to ask him. I hope he's doing well - the last X post I saw was from '25, but I think that's a defect of X. (I'm not a member in good standing.)

PS: Mr. Hail, they seem to always want that Monday off, but I see no difference for those hard-working, hard-charging government workers who want MOAR 3-day weekends to take an extra Friday. Good Friday would work better, IMO. I think you(?) Floridians should get the good Governor on board.
During my HS years, there was no Spring Break, but I think we may have gotten that 1 or those 2 extra days off before Easter. Now, they have all kinds of extra days off, and for college, the Semester is quite a bit shorter in class days.

PS: Thanks for the Easter bunny or hare, Mr. Smith and belated happy Easter to you.
I am ashamed that I had thought there was no difference between a hare and a rabbit until today. This is why people should come to Peak Stupidity, to learn something.
I do know that there are Turtles, Tortoises, and Terrapins, with Tortuga being the Spanish word for one or some of these creatures. That gives me lots of variety when I mention Mitch McConnell.

Why aren't there any Easter-related public holidays in the US other than Easter Sunday itself?
With Sunday an off day anyway for schools and regular businesses (by law? Certainly by nearly universally followed custom in the US), there is nothing eztra off for Easter. Canada gives Monday off.
In many places schools are off for at least the late part of pre-Easter week (Thursday, Friday). Many districts align "spring break" week to Palm Sunday to Easter week.
"Stop the madness and replace Juneteenth with Easter Monday." DeSantis-2028 slogan.

Mr Smith, is that a rabbit or a hare?
For also complicated reasons, Easter deals only in hares.
For reasons we need expert opinion on, people shifted to saying "Easter Bunny," but bunny is usually a synonym for rabbit and not hare.

Happy belated Easter indeed. I too did not realize that hares and rabbits are distinct species with different behaviors, appearances, and genetics. For example, hare babies ("leverets") are born fully furred and with eyes open, able to run soon after birth. Rabbit babies ("kits") are born blind, naked, and entirely helpless.
(Who knew?) (Well, apparently Mr. Hail knew.)
Yes, Mr. Hail, it is with a not so heavy heart that I must admit that these drawings are not proper hares. As evidenced by their file names, they are bunnies...

(You can see how much detail gets lost in translation from .jpg to PS comment window dot art format.)
And I guess I'll leave a link to this goofy little video...

Spring is in the air and I'm really tempted to start planting tomatoes in the dirt and even more tempted to take the aloe plants out of their makeshift winter shelter but... There is still a (small) chance we could get another frost/freeze in the next few weeks so I probably shouldn't.(?) (I guess I could plug some more snow peas and snap peas and such if I must plant something. (Anyway...)
I hope you all have a great Wednesday! ☮️
