That was a good one!
They can't leave anything White alone. I've done some sailing long ago, but it wasn't like the pictures you see of the Kennedies. But, no, there weren't any black people on any boat I've sailed - most of the time on a Cal-15, so ...
A friend had told me that the name of this particular The Police album. the 2nd with a title in French after Outlandos d'Amour. had a secret meaning, a "dog whistle", if you will. Rather than about a sailing regatta race (but what was the white?), it also meant "The White Race", as in the people. Well, we didn't have spell-check, you know, so I found out decades later that the title meant "White Reggae".
The Police did have a Reggae sound for some of the music. I'm sure Peak Stupidity has featured Walking on the Moon before. That's an example, and with such a great chorus! Another good song from that album was Message in a Bottle, written by Sting*, as was the first one and about half the songs on Regatta de Blanc.
Reggae is a black thing, but these 3 very White men could play it too. It wasn't about "improving inclusivity" though. The Police just liked and played the music. If black people don't particularly like sailing boats, leave 'em alone about it.
* I'm not sure what was wrong with his real name, Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner.

PS: Thanks, Possumman. I did see one black guy skydiver, who fit in OK, but there were 3 big fat black broads that were there maybe to watch and eat at the cafe. We were wondering how big a chute it would have taken otherwise, maybe one of the tandem chutes could let one down slowly enough. Can’t have big holes in the landing area or one of the runways…

PS: I looked at your AI output from your Jackson Brown question, Adam. The Japanese are pretty sane.
Not only would a black lady who popped out a kid while detained in-country for stealing a wallet be sent home and her kid in no way be considered Japanese, but someone who commits crimes is probably less likely to even get a tourist visa again. Well, right now, Japan doesn’t require a visa from Americans), but perhaps they would not let her enter the country next time. Again, they are a sane country.

PS: Yeah, I was not up for going through the “too unbearable” article in the Sierra Club magazine, Fast Company etc. I mean, if it’s so damn unbearable, why not take up pick-up basketball or “cruising” on Carnival Cruise lines. (Of course, the latter is anything BUT excercise!). I might have already read the AmRen article, but I’ll check it out, Adam.
The prices of skiing, etc, have become somewhat unbearable though - I’m always surprised, as I still remember prices from 20 - 40 years ago. Jumping out of a perfectly good airplane from 13,000 ft. costs $35 at my local drop zone ($2 surcharge for “the war”, though Jet-A and avgas are really not that much higher yet in small doses.) OTOH, one could jump out of a piece of shit airplane for less - same thrills and even more so!
It’s those high prices that are part of keeping the overbearable black crowd away. When it comes to hiking though, that’s not it. They just are lazy, and don’t really appreciate pristineness and quiet. That’s not at all who they are.

PS Actually there is a black guy that shoots with us from time to time--both 5stand and sporting clays--excellent shot and a very nice guy--I don't shoot much trap but understand that he is lights out on the trap field. Nobody bats an eye at any of the clubs I frequent when he is there and those clubs tend toward the old white guy demographic and the country fried demo too.

PS: Possumman, trapshooting would get dangerous if your average black people began taking part. Shooting with the shotgun held sideways would not be helpful either, and they would have to claim something about the inherent racism of the sport.
I guess it’s the money that keeps them out of skiing, though most skiers would deny that they appreciate this. Black people don’t have the money generally because they suck at handling and holding onto money… a segue to my next post, haha.
The ski slopes are pretty White, pretty safe unless you like the black diamonds (NOT my thing), and pretty fun.
There aren’t many blacks in skydiving either - I’ll take a look again soon at that.

Either way, I appreciate your interesting comments here, and on TUR. (It’s probably time for a new iSteve Community thread.

-- On why Blacks never stayed in northern cities before the chains tracing to the late 1910s --
I have seen stories from around the 1890s, as I recall, of big employers in northeastern cities attempting to break strikes by bringing in cheap labor. They'd go several different routes with this strategy, with, in many cases, long-term demographic effects on the locality.
A common one in the 1890s certainly, in the northeast, was cheap Southern Italian or Sicilian laborers, virtually none of whom had long-term meaningful connection to the US as of the 1890s and, having arrived as adults, were not able to speak English well or understand what was going on. For some time this kind of laborer was managed on a "padrone" system of hiring group-labor, which could be contracted out of New York and then, the particulars arranged, could descend on the striking factory-town and try to break the strike.
The factory owners, I assume, didn't really want these Southern Italians long-term, and they were often used as leverage to break the ongoing White-US unionization push and get striking White men to back off their demands. In many cases in places where these actions happened, flash forward a century and there are lots of people with Italian names around. In many of those cases I assume the first settlement-bridgeheads came back to those strike-breaking actions with pool labor controlled by the "padrones."
This kind of action, naturally, outraged White men who viewed themselves as victims of a (micro-scale) High-Low Coalition Against the Middle. There was a lot of hot tempers in those days over the labor issue. The most famous political convention speech in US history may be the 1896 "Cross of Gold" speech by William Jennings Bryan, which while it nominally was centered around monetary policy was really leaning heavily towards a pro-White Labor stance. (Consult the transcript of the speech even briefly, and you'll agree.)
Around this same time, you'd see very occasional reports of owners trying the very same thing with Blacks. I wonder when the first such cases were, but similar cases were certainly ongoing in the 1890s. Somehow, before the 1910s, these actions almost never results in Blacks sticking around in the towns they were sent to. The baseline of outrage against "cheap, imported labor managed by contract-labor bosses (on the padrone model) undermining the dignity of native-White Labor" was so strong that when they added Blacks to it, it snowballed into an intolerable outrage and the Blacks very seldom had any long-term continuity in the places they were sent to.
On the other hand, when the Black migration-chains that trace to the mid-1910s (especially the war-year 1917) finally happened, they were drawing on a precedent of occasional temporary influxes of Black labor-gangs sent up and which disappeared soon. So the initial waves of the coming human wave, the White men who might've prevented it didn't foresee the coming cataclysm. Some did, and you have a number of serious inter-racial brawls and riots including all over the map in about 1918-1920.
__________
I'll add that you see some of this with the European socialist movements across the board, in that generation of White men born around the middle and late 19th century not tolerating Black migrants.
The leading socialist in Sweden was Hjalmar Branting (1860-1925). He was the most important single political figure in Sweden between the mid-1910s and mid-1920s. As a young man in the 1880s-90s, in the time I allude to, although he was in Europe his positions might be attributed also to the White Labor men in the US. So what was his racial position?
In the early 1920s, while prime minister, Hjamlar Branting denounced the Allies for bringing in Black soldiers to occupy parts of Germany. He called this an intolerable racial outrage, one which no White man of self-respect and dignity should respect; shame on the British and French for doing it; and it augurs disaster if such things persist. This was the leading member of the social democratic party of Sweden (and soon head of the national government)!
Hjalmar Branting's was the kind of attitude that I expect undermined Black "migrants" in the northern US cities in the period before the mid-20th century. The bottom started to really fall out in the mid-20th century, and we still today haven't recovered racial self-respect. It was not purely "racism" that blocked Blacks, more of a whole conception of self-identity, the dignity of place; of community, of kinship; of occupation or of calling, of capital-L Labor. All of these things tended to be subject to dissolving tendencies in the middle-20th century and ever since.
_______________
A more practical reason for White opposition to Black migrants coming up and sticking around? The need for communities to exist around specific nodes, "downtowns," in which people circulated on foot or on horse-and-carriage, or, at most by the late 1890s, in some local electric trolleys. For regular, medium- and longer-distance travel, it was trains (or ships). These conveyances required people who wished to be economically or socially active in cities, to be bunched up together.
Starting especially in the second quarter of the 20th century, the mass introduction of the gas-powered automobile and the improvements of roads and such infrastructure , allowed a pressure-releave valve at social scale. White men whose fathers, grandfathers, and great-grandfathers had been willing and able to oppose Black advances, now many of them were willing to "sell out" and go a certain driving distance away, to places which, in those earlier generations would not necessarily have been daily-commutable.

PS: “ The northern industrialists sent labor recruiters to the south and even offered free transportation and low-cost housing. So, as usual, the usual suspects are behind the decline of the USA.”
Yep, just as with the immigration invasion, the regular people did not ask for any of this. Some of it, though, isn’t even about cheap labor. Did they want the Somalians in Minnesota for that? I think it was just pure destructiveness along with the nice Minnesotans thinking they could show how nice they are.
The hike on Hadrian’s Wall sounds pretty cool. How long ago was that?

PS: It’s somewhat coincidental that I had some of these same thoughts last night, Mr. Hail. Yesterday, I had a problem with nasty angry negroes on the road. I’m thinking more of getting farther away.
I thought about how, though the problem that resulted from the stupidity ~ 200 - 300 years ago of cheap-labor seeking Colonists/Americans, has never been solved, it had been “contained”, with that use of that word similar as it was used for European and Asian Communism 35-60 years ago. Yes, the South had the best plan they could come up with, staying separated generally, and the rest of the country didn’t have to deal with at all until the great migration up north a century ago. Even then, until the Civil Rites destruction in the mid-1960s, one could live well away from them, or at least not experience the inherent violence even in the inner cities so much.
Anyway, you said it well. Thanks for that comment.

What delayed the “Great Migration” ? My guess would be that the industrialists of the day had not realized until the 20th century that they could orgaize their industrial processes to a point where each sub-process could be assigened to a lower IQ group of people willing to work at a lower wage. A dull back-breaking factory job that paid twice as much as working on a hot southern farm was an easy decision. The northern industrialists sent labor recruiters to the south and even offered free transportation and low-cost housing. So, as usual, the usual suspects are behind the decline of the USA.
BTW, Mr. Mod, Mrs. Alarmist and I hiked most of Hadrian’s Wall (some parts are not really worth hiking) in the North of England, starting at Newcastle, where Mr. Sumner was born. At the site of an archeological dig with reconstructions of several Roman structures, they have a viewing tower that I blieve also gives one a view of his old neighbourhood.

The funny thing about Blacks in the US is: their presence and influence is a problem of Migration and not Slavery.
Because of their heavy presence in cities (and other reasons of media representation), people almost always far over-estimate the Black share of the national population. That's entirely due to their visibility in certain major cities. (Every "Detroit" is more than balanced out by huge numbers of small communities which are nearly all-White, within relatively easy driving distance.)
The demands for heavy Black representation in wealthy-white-people stuff gets traction thanks to heavy Black presences in northern cities, the places where traditional bastions of some of these sports or hobbies or things.
There were few to no Blacks in major northern cities before the late 1910s. They filled in -- between a small boom especially tied to the year 1917 with the war-industry labor-demand boom and the following five or so decades. Even southern cities became much Blacker around this period. But this is because of intra-regional Black migration. The impetus for over-representation of Blacks in the media is not solely about Black Moral Superiority doctrine but about the legacy of Migration.
Typically ethnonarcisst Blacks called their 1910s-to-1960s chain migrations to northern cities to get on welfare rolls, "The Great Migration." Because of Black Moral Superiority Doctrine, white commentators simply adopted this language, although in US historiography it had previously referred to a mass migration of the Puritans to New England in the early-17th century, kickstarting New England culture in a way from which there was no going back (especially after the bloody defeats of the local Indians by ca.1675).
What held back Blacks from starting their "Great" chain-migrations to northern cities decades earlier?
If you go along with me that the spring of 1917 is the symbolic start-point for the big wave, that's almost 50 years after the 14th Amendment was ratified (July 1868, with southern states under military administration and unable to vote). But no sustained or significant Black migration to any northern area happened in that half-century.

Because of Black Moral Superiority Doctrine, white commentators simply adopted this language, although in US historiography it had previously referred to a mass migration of the Puritans to New England in the early-17th century, kickstarting New England culture in a way from which there was no going back (especially after the bloody defeats of the local Indians by ca.1675).
