Certain people can get very sensitive, to hurtful questions and hard alcohol, both. Those who generally call themselves The People - we call them The First Nations, the Spirits Communities, or just drunken Indians - haven't all fit in so well into the White World since a century and a half.

We've given them helping hands, even invoking the Spirit of D.I.E. to give them Lecturer positions at Cal State Universities. From what I see here, the "U" should be stripped from these places of learing - this is San Marcos, California in San Diego County. From The College Fix, we read about a Cal State lecturer removed after kicking student out for question on Native American alcoholism rates.

It was a pretty legit question, in my opinion. It's possible the paleface student had not met an Indian in his life, so he wanted to question a stereotype. But, Cal State Ethnic Study squaw get angry. Penelope Lewis of the Yomba Shoshone Tribe Lewises, was recorded:
The video begins with the scholar telling the student “no you’re not, no you’re not” when he appears to say “I’m sorry.”

“So get up and get the f— out of my class right now,” she continues. Another clip shows the lecturer saying: “You did this sh– on purpose, you are out of my class. I am dropping you.”

The video jumps to a discussion between the instructor and what appears to be a small group of students.

“We are actually not more likely to be alcoholics,” the lecturer says with emotion. “We have steadily fought for our land. I just feel so hurt.”
This is supposed to be college, not an argument at the, I don't know, reservation bar.
On the day of the alleged incident, Smith [some student in the class who took the video] said the class was discussing race and ethnicity. One topic that came up was crime rates among African Americans and drug use, she said.

Smith described the class as a “race and culture course.” However, the description does not exactly match the names of the two courses Lewis is teaching this fall, “Introduction to Ethnic Studies” and “Race and the University,” according to the university course catalogue.
In other words, Squaw Lewis of the Shoshones is getting paid to use this Cal State classroom to rant against the White Man. What was the question again?"
The question the student asked that got him kicked out was: “I heard that Native Americans have a higher rate in alcoholism. Is this true?” according to Smith.
They've got a higher rate of ... something! A simple yes or no answer might have defused tensions... within Squaw Lewis' head.
According to Smith’s allegations, the lecturer did not give the students any assignments or quizzes so far this semester, and most of the classes involved discussions about controversial topics.
Just a semester long rant, at, how much per credit hour nowadays? College must be really, really miserable for a White boy.

Miss Smith said, "The class now has a substitute teacher.", and the "University" spokesman said "The lecturer is no longer in the classroom."

I suppose showing the following video extolling the culture of the Red Indian in a class like this would be out of the question then, idn't it?

I'd never seen this before in my life. Those guys were hilarious!

PS: Ha, Possumman! That had to be weird to see. In China there are elaborate overpasses across many big intersections in the cites with access to every corner from every other corner. I think these pay off, as man, the traffic, both vehicular and pedestrian is a huge amount.

Out in the middle of nowhere, it does seem wasteful and ludicrous. Perhaps it would have been cheaper to just build a 2nd liquor store on the other side of the road, with same wampum required for purchase.

The whole thing is sad. I did pick up an Indian hitchhiker long ago in some midwest or western State I can't even remember for sure - maybe S. Dakota, but maybe not. He tried to explain his predicament with his car being out of gas, but I couldn't get it all because he was drunk.

PS years ago when my 40ish year old kids were 20 or so we went to visit the kid living for the summer in Colorado Springs and from there did the tour of western sights--Grand Canyon- Moab-Pikes peak etc We drove through some Indian Reservation on a lonely highway -in he middle of nowhere there was an very elaborate road crossing pedestrian bridge with stairs on both side so that it was like an overpass but just for people. Basically it was to allow drunken Indians access to the retail on the other side of the road including a prominent liquor store--apparently there had been a number fatal accidents there--again in the middle of nowhere.
