Happy Columbus Day!

In fourteen hundred and ninety-two, Columbus and crew sailed the ocean blue .. in 3 small boats, the Nina, the Pinta, and the Santa Maria... to a new world.



OMG! We forgot our required Land Acknowledgement yesterday. Peak Stupidity management issues our sincerest apologies to any and all sue-happy Indigenous Folk. BTW, WE! OWN! NOTHING!

Anyway, we'll start here today yesterday with our acknowledgment of the origins of the neighborhood shown in the Sopranos video below. Before the Soprano family inhabited this piece of New Jersey sidewalk, it belonged to the Gambino Family, until the Gambinos were hit at the Exit 41 Turnpike toll booths with auto-weapon fire in response to their having muscled in on the Tortellini Family's 28th street protection racket. Before the Tortellinis, this sacred piece of concrete was inhabited for years by the Corleone Family. The Corleone Family was steeped in the ancient ways, long practicing delivery truck theft, stereo store hold-ups, and rigged casino gambling, but NO DRUGS. The Corleones inhabited this place for a nearly century, going back to the ... ancient Americans, the White people who lived in the lands of New Jersey since a little while after the arrival of Christopher Columbus.

We'd completely forgotten to commemorate this holiday for the last 2 years, I've just realized. The 2nd to the last time was in '22 with our post Happy Indigenous People's Day!. Whoa, whoa, back off! Who threw that calzone?!

That post had a good point. What makes a people indigenous? How long do you gotta be somewhere?
The President-pre-select has proclaimed this Indigenous People's Day, and I, for one, am thankful for the shout-out. He is talking about White Europeans, isn't he? I mean, White Americans have just gotta be indigenous by now. How long did each Indian tribe that captured some land have to be there? As Peak Stupidity asked in a post on the subject - The Four Corners - Utah - "What does a people have to do to be indigenous around here anyway?"

I think a lot of us are covered by this newly proclaimed holiday. Wait... what? You mean it's about the Indians?
That "President-pre-select" was Dark Brandon, of course. President Trump does not go for the Wokeness, and we appreciate that.

It's kind of sad that Americans have had to root for a group of the millions of Italian immigrants who do theft and violence for a living, but people appreciate "The Mob" because, being already on the other side of the law, they don't have as much to lose by pushing back. The Italians lionize Cristoforo Colombo because he's Italian, and one wonders if how much other wokeness Tony Soprano's crew of the fictional show, or those in real life would care about.

I'd rather have seen this go the other way in the show, but the Eyetalian mobsters here lost this one. Tony the boss did not like anything detracting from "bidness".

PS: Ahhh, Alarmist, I missed that fun. I have seen over the past month or two that humorous parody land acknowledgements have been made by some of the Trump admin. people.
